The Power of Fresh Content

Fresh content is a problem that every webmaster experiences. What do I mean? Fresh content is hard to come up with sometimes. I started this blog to force me to write, something that I’m not very good at. It’s a skill that is essential if you would like your site to have large amounts of traffic.

Brochure Websites

Many companies put a website on the net and think this is enough. A website is more than a brochure. Even if you just update your company calendar on a regular basis, something needs to be changed. If a surfer stops by your website and they enjoy the experience, they will come back. If you site is different when they come back, they will be encouraged to come back again.

Example Please

Sure…my ecommerce site does quite well. When I change the homepage at least once per month, it does better. I can display (rotate) more products. Over the past few months I have gotten very lazy and my site has slowed down a bit. Don’t get me wrong, it does well. However, it could be doing much better.

Start a Blog (even if it’s just for practice)

Like I said, I started this blog to make me write. I have always been a math and science type (a geek), I need help in the writing department. Forcing myself to post everyday is helping me tremendously with my other sites. I have noticed that I don’t think so much, my thoughts are starting to come naturally.

Make sure you read your posts at a later date, though. Reading your old posts will help you find mistakes and develope as a writer. Good luck and remember…CONTENT IS KING!

Straight to the point…Landing Pages

A “landing page” is the first page that you see when you click on a specific link. For example, if I see a link to buy a camera, I don’t want that link to take me to the homepage of the store. I want that link to take me to the specific page on the site that is about the camera.

Let’s get specific.

Double searching leads to lost sales. If a potential customer “Googles” the term “Canon Cameras”, your AdWords ad should take them to your “Canon Camera” category page. If they search for “Canon EOS 20D digital camera”, you AdWords ad should take them straight to the page to purchase the “Canon EOS 20D”. Never take a customer to your homepage and make them search a second time.

So you ask, “How do I get my natural listings to work this way also?” Very easily, but that is for another post. Right now, check your paid advertising and make sure your links are “straight to the point”.

Introducing Leotard Crazy (gymnastics pro shop)

Leotard Crazy is the first and only business that I have developed from the ground up. It is a gymnastics pro shop that supplies the gymnastics industry with leotards, grips, wrist supports, and other things that are important to gymnasts. Leotard Crazy is growing everyday and is becoming one of the most successful online stores in its industry.

What makes Leotard Crazy so successful?

Leotard Crazy is a very small, niche online store. Most, if not all, of the items cannot be found in regular retail sports stores. Most gymnastics facilities have very limited pro shops as the owners are more interested in coaching than retail sales. The gymnastics industry, as a whole, relys on the internet for supplies.

We found out that one of our major hurdles would be providing great customer service. Our customers, parents and relatives of gymnasts, are not educated in gymnastics. Taking the extra time to help them understand the product ensures return customers. For example, gymnastics grips (worn on hands to help the gymnast hang on) must be properly sized and cared for to minimize risk. Grips do wear out and when they do we want that customer to return to us. We have found that we must provide regular phone hours to truly provide excellent customer service. A phone call to tell a customer that their item is on backorder goes alot further than an email.

We have many other success factors besides just being a niche store and having great customer service. These other factors (Miva Merchant, SEO, advertising, shipping, product selection) will be covered in great detail over and over again as this blog progresses. However, providing something that few others provide and providing great customer service will always be the most important part of our success.
