Don’t Pop Your Top!

Yes…Yes…another day in the world of management. Most jobs have advancement opportunities that will eventually lead you to a management position. Is management something that you are interested in?

If you have been promoted to a management position, don’t disappoint. You were probably selected for some of your great qualities: organization, temprement, experience, even appearance. These are all great, but its what you do in a stressful situation that will define you as a great boss.

Take the time to do the right thing. If you find yourself being childish (yelling), give yourself a time out. Walk to a different room and ask yourself how to handle the situation. The solution should be productive, simple, and delivered in a professional manner. Nobody wants a 20 year old boss…make sure you act your age (and if your 20, act older).

Computers vs. Paper

Why is it that unorganized people rely so much on paper? Here’s the problem:

My way…

  1. Enter data into the computer
  2. Print out want I want later

Unorganized…

  1. Write all information down on a post-it note
  2. Forget about the computer for now
  3. Add all post-its (except the lost one) to computer at some later date

When an entire company is run off a program driven by a database, that database must always be up to date. There is no time to use (and lose) post-it notes. All information should be entered on the fly. Any delay in information can cause huge mistakes…after all, you’re not the only one on the database.

My point…before you become a part of the system, you must first understand it.
