Someone elses glasses?

In a small business I have noticed three major classes of people: workers, managers, and owners. All of these people are very important, so important, that they can’t function without each other. They are also all very different, each of them has positives and negatives.

Each of these types of people wear different “glasses”. I have worn 2 pair of the “glasses” extensively and the other pair I am just putting on. Each time I put on a new pair of “glasses” I notice that I can’t see something that I used to be able to. My point…don’t forget to look around with your glasses before you decide to try someone elses on. Often, things are not as bad as they seem.

Don’t Pop Your Top!

Yes…Yes…another day in the world of management. Most jobs have advancement opportunities that will eventually lead you to a management position. Is management something that you are interested in?

If you have been promoted to a management position, don’t disappoint. You were probably selected for some of your great qualities: organization, temprement, experience, even appearance. These are all great, but its what you do in a stressful situation that will define you as a great boss.

Take the time to do the right thing. If you find yourself being childish (yelling), give yourself a time out. Walk to a different room and ask yourself how to handle the situation. The solution should be productive, simple, and delivered in a professional manner. Nobody wants a 20 year old boss…make sure you act your age (and if your 20, act older).
