Welcome Headers for vBulletin is a mod designed to encourage lurkers to join your forum. As soon as I installed it, I noticed an improved registration rate. However, a couple of other things that I did with this module helped even more.
My “Welcome Header” Tips…
- Message: Welcome your users. If you run a revenue forum you could say something like, “Welcome young entrepreneurs, web moguls, and future millionaires.” By welcoming everyone pertaining to your niche, you will get more registrations.
- Color: Make the “Welcome Header” a color that stands out (not too obnoxious). Let them know that the header will disappear when they register. Include this information right in the header. My header states, “All the orange boxes will disappear when you register.”
- Header and Footer: Don’t just place it at the top of the page, place it at the top and the bottom of every page. Eventually the lurkers will see it and join.
- Ads Disappear?: I chose to have my AdSense ads disappear for registered members (we will talk about this more tomorrow). My header states more than I first stated above. It states, “All the orange boxes and Google ads disappear when you register.”
